Celeste application instructions

Below are some instructions and frequently asked questions about setting up and using the Celeste PPG study acquisition app.

Before You Start

  • If you are running lower than Android version 12 or iOS version 15.5, please update your phone to the latest version. 
  • Make sure your sleep device (for example, a fingertip or watch) is sufficiently charged: a device with a low battery may not be able to complete a full sleep session.

    • It should be charged to at least 60% battery to successfully record a full night of sleep.

  • Make sure you have 32 MB of storage on your phone. Your sleep recording will not start if you do not have enough storage. 

  • We suggest that you plug in your phone. Bluetooth connectivity and data transfer can rapidly use your battery power. Your sleep recording will not complete if your phone shuts down.
  • Do not turn your phone to Airplane Mode before or during the recording.
  • The app automatically stops recording if you reach the 12 hour maximum session time. 

Open the App

  1. Go to the iOS App Store / Google Play Store and search for the [Celeste Sleep] app.
    1. Alternatively, use the link to the app that your Home Sleep Test provider provided.
  2. Download the app. [placeholder for image of customer’s app icon]
  3. The first time you open the app you must read and accept the terms and conditions.
  4. If asked, allow Bluetooth connections in your phone’s system settings in order to link the app to your sleep device.

Connect a Device

  1. If you previously connected a sleep device and set up your profile, the app will automatically attempt to connect so you can go straight to recording (see Start a Recording).
  2. If you have not previously connected a sleep device or set up your profile: 
  3. Tap Scan. The app scans for and displays nearby sleep devices.
  4. Tap the desired device.
  5. Tap Connect. The app will show that it is connecting to the device. 

Enter Your Profile

  1. When you first download the app, it will ask for the patient to type in their information.
  2. As the app connects it stores the serial number of the device so your sleep doctor can match the device to your recording.
  3. Enter your first name, last name, date of birth, and phone number. Double check for accuracy. 
  4. Tap Continue.
  5. Enter your sex, height, and weight.
  6. Tap Finish.

Start a Recording

  1. Place the device on your finger/wrist when you’re ready to go to sleep. 
  2. Tap Start Recording.
  3. If the signal strength or storage space is too low, that app indicates it can’t perform the recording. The app displays an estimate of how many hours it can record before the battery is too low. It also indicates if the sleep device disconnected. If the device disconnects the app automatically attempts to reconnect until it reaches the maximum recording session time (12 hours).

End a Recording

Tap End Recording.

The recording it is saved on your phone. The app uploads your sleep recording for analysis, and a list of your sleep sessions appears.

If your recording is less than 10 minutes will not upload since it is too short to analyze.

Note: If the app cannot upload the recording for some reason, it makes attempts to upload in the background while you are using your phone.

Change the Device

  1. Press the arrow icon next to the sleep device name.  

  2. Press Disconnect Device.
    If the app was automatically connecting to it, it will no longer auto-connect.

  3. Tap the sleep device to which you want to connect.

  4. Follow the instructions under Connect to a Device.

You can also disconnect a sleep device by pressing the settings icon and selecting Disconnect Device.

View Recording Sessions

If you already have recorded sleep sessions, when you open the app the latest session appears and you can view past sessions by tapping Past Sessions.

Clear All Data

You can reset the app and clear all of your data. This removes recording sessions, devices, and your information. To reset the app and clear all the data press the settings icon in the upper right, then tap Reset All Data.
